Print and Map Layouts

Compose a page layout with drag-and-drop overlays and export a print-ready PDF entirely in the browser.

  • An open project with the layers you want on the page

"Print Map" turns your map into a composed page: pick a page size, drag a legend, scale bar, north arrow, and text into place on a live preview, and export a PDF. What you see in the preview is what you get.

Open the dialog

Open the Explorer project ⋯ menu and choose "Print Map". The "Print Map" dialog is two-pane: settings on the left, a live drag-and-drop preview canvas on the right. Drag elements directly on the preview to place them.

Set up the page

Choose your "Page size" and "Orientation", then a "Resolution" — higher for print, lower for a quick draft. Options grey out when the layout would be too big at that resolution.

Place your elements

Add a heading, a "Legend", a "Scale bar", a "North arrow", an "Overview map", a border, and as many text blocks as you need. Each one has its own settings, and a "Placement" putting it on the map itself or into one of the page margins.

The "Legend" is worth a moment: you choose which layers appear and what each is called, so the page says "Hydrants" rather than whatever the layer is named internally.

Text blocks carry whatever the page needs beyond the title — attribution, a date, project notes. For the "Harbourview Network Buildout" deliverable, Ava Reyes puts the heading in the top margin, the "Legend" in the right margin relabeled to plain names for "Hydrants" and "Distribution Mains", and a text block with the review date in the bottom margin.

Export the PDF

A summary above the export button confirms what's about to render. Start it, and "Cancel export" genuinely stops it if you change your mind.

Two things can interrupt an export:

  • "Not enough space" — the layout does not fit; reduce elements, change the page size, or lower the "Resolution".
  • "Export failed" — the render did not complete; try again.
