Spatial Selection

Select thousands of features by drawing on the map, and put the result to work.

  • At least one visible, selectable managed vector layer in the project

Rectangle and lasso selection turn a drawn shape into a working set across every selectable layer — and they're built for scale, so selecting tens of thousands of features is a normal move, not a mistake.

Run a selection

  1. Choose "Rectangle Select" or "Lasso Select" from the toolbar's "Select" tool.
  2. Draw across the area you care about. Every visible layer with "Include in selection" enabled participates; excluded layers are ignored. Visible means the layer's eye is on — a layer that is outside its scale range at the current zoom still participates.
  3. Watch the "Selecting features..." progress pill until highlights finish rendering.
  4. Review the result in the Data pane's "Selected" tab.

When selection can't run

Two messages worth recognizing:

  • "No selectable layers" — everything is excluded. Flip at least one layer's toggle to "Include in selection".
  • "Selection unavailable" — you need a vector layer that's actually visible. Hidden layers don't count, and WMS and imagery layers can't be selected this way.

Put the selection to work

A spatial selection is an input, not just a highlight:

  • Data pane — the "All" / "Selected" / "In View" tabs present the selection as rows you can page through and work from.
  • Analytics — any analytics widget with its "Selected" toggle on recomputes against the selection geometry, so a lasso around one neighborhood instantly rescopes counts and charts. Ava Reyes lassoes a corridor of "Distribution Mains" in the Harbourview Network Buildout and reads the material breakdown for just that corridor without touching a filter.

While highlights remain, "Clear Selection" stays available on the toolbar even after you switch tools — clear when you're done so stale highlights don't mislead the next read of the map.
