The Maps pane is where spatial work happens: assemble your layers, style them, select and inspect features, and edit geometry — all against a live map. To look through a dataset's rows before mapping it, use Data Store instead.
Your layers are listed on the left, where you reorder them, group them, and open each one's actions. The map fills the middle, with address search and a basemap picker on it, and a right-click menu for anything you want to do at a specific spot. The toolbar carries the tools — "Select", "Edit", "Measure & profile", "Spatial Analysis", and "Analytics".
Project-level actions — "Add Layer", "Print Map", "Publish to Server…", "Project Settings" — live in the project menu at the top of the layer list.
