Use Maps & Layers when you need to style, edit, select, inspect, or version geographic features. Use Data Store when you need row-level dataset inspection or field validation before mapping.

FAQ
What is a layer versus a dataset?▾
A managed dataset lives in Data Store. A layer is that data (or a version of it) mounted in a project map with style and edit context. See Datasets vs Map Layers.
Why didn't my edit update the base tiles yet?▾
Edits stay as hot deltas until you close the edit session. Panel X does not end the session. See Edit Session and Tile Rebuild.
When should I use clustering or hexbin?▾
Use them for dense point layers at overview zooms. Both rebuild on session close, not on every style tweak. See Clustering and Hexbin.
