Editing starts at the toolbar's "Edit" control — a dropdown, not a toggle — and runs through the feature template panel, where geometry work and attribute work happen in one flow.
The Edit dropdown
- "Create layer..." — start a new editable layer from scratch.
- "Edit Layer" ▸ — a submenu listing the project's vector layers; pick one to edit it. With no candidates it reads "No vector layers are available." A hidden layer is annotated "Hidden - will be shown" — choosing it makes it visible so you can see what you edit.
- "Add Markup" ▸ — quick annotation without a data layer: "Text Label", "Callout / Note", "Location Marker", "Line / Path", "Area Outline", "Photo Overlay".
Layers that can't be edited — read-only shares, non-editable sources — surface an "Editing unavailable" state instead of an edit session.
The feature template panel
With a layer active, the panel offers "Create Feature", "Edit Feature", "Duplicate Feature", and "Delete Feature". Each one walks you through it — "Select a feature to edit", "Choose a source feature" then "Place the duplicate", "Click Start to begin drawing."
The panel tells you where the feature stands as you work: whether it's saved yet, and whether it's ready. The "Attributes" section below holds its fields, and "Save changes" commits everything.
All edits happen inside an edit session — see Edit Sessions and Tile Rebuilds for what happens when you end one.
