Point editing is the fastest edit flow in the Maps pane: one click places the geometry, and the rest of the work is attributes. It's the right tool for site, asset, and address maintenance — the daily upkeep of a layer like "Hydrants".
Create a point
- Open the toolbar's "Edit" dropdown and choose the point layer under "Edit Layer".
- In the feature template panel, choose "Create Feature". The panel prompts "Click Start to begin drawing."
- Start, then click the map where the point belongs.
- Fill in the "Attributes" section — for a new hydrant, that's the identifying and status fields the layer defines.
- Click "Save changes".
The attributes open the moment you place the point, so a new hydrant goes in complete rather than as a bare dot you have to come back to.
Edit an existing point
- With the layer active for editing, choose "Edit Feature". The panel guides you: "Select a feature to edit".
- Click the point. Its saved attributes load into the panel.
- Move the point if it's misplaced, and correct any attribute fields that changed.
- Click "Save changes".
Read the loaded attributes before you save. Being on the right spot isn’t the same as being on the right feature.
Practical notes
- Zoom in before placing or moving points. Location accuracy is the whole job here, and a click at overview zoom carries real ground distance.
- Check "Data Specs" before a big data-entry session, so new features get the IDs you expect. See Layer Actions and Data Specs.
- Your saves show on the map straight away. See Edit Sessions and Tile Rebuilds.
