Create and Open Projects

How Map Builder uses projects as the working container for GIS tasks.

Before you start
  • Signed in to Tamaat

Projects are the working container for GIS activity in Tamaat. They define the map context, the set of project layers, and the place where an analyst organizes the work before it is shared or published.

When to create a new project

Create a new project when:

  • the work has a distinct operational scope
  • the layer stack should be separate from another team's work
  • the map extent, active version, or publishing target needs to be managed independently

Typical first steps

  1. Start in Workspace to decide whether to reuse an existing project or create a new one.
  2. Open Map Builder.
  3. Create the project or open the existing project you want to work in.
  4. Add the layers that define the first working view.

What a good first project looks like

A practical project usually starts with:

  • one core operational layer
  • one or more contextual layers
  • a meaningful initial map extent
  • a clear naming convention so the project can be revisited and shared

What to do next

Continue to Add Layers and Organize Groups once the project container is established.
